Poteet Theatre’s 2013 season opens with an all time family favorite, Rogers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Based on the true story of the Von Trapp family, The Sound of Music has been delighting and inspiring audiences for generations and this production promises to continue that tradition. The cast, directed by Angela Prock, with music direction by Tim Wall, will take audiences along on a journey in the hills of Austria as they watch Maria (Kristin Fitzgerald) win the hearts of the seven children she has been assigned to as governess. Their strict, navy captain father, Captain Von Trapp (Rob May) also finds that Maria’s charm has unexpectedly warmed his cold exterior and eventually reaches the heart he wasn’t even sure existed anymore. While love is blooming anew for Maria, and being rediscovered by the Captain, the threat of Nazi occupation in their beloved Austria bears down on them. The Sound of Music is a story of faith, love, family and courage that is carried along by some of musical theatre’s most famous and recognizable melodies. Songs such as “The Sound of Music”, “My Favorite Things”, “Do Re Mi”, “16 going on 17″ and “Climb Every Mountain” have become happy favorites among theater lovers for over 50 years. In addition, this production follows the staging of the 1995 Broadway revival that also includes two songs from the 1965 motion picture version: “I Have Confidence” and “Something Good”. The Sound of Music runs March 1-March 24 with Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm and Sunday afternoon performances at 3pm. For full schedule information, please visit www.poteettheatre.com
