OKC Thunder: Jeremy Lamb report card

by Darnell Mayberry Published: June 4, 2013

Attitude: B. As a lottery pick, Lamb probably expected to play major minutes as a rookie. Those minutes never came. But Lamb never complained. He had moments of frustration, privately and publicly. But he stayed professional and ultimately accepted his role, supporting his teammates when he wasn't playing, all while continuing to work on his game.

D-League assignments: A. Lamb was assigned to the NBA D-League nine times this season. He made the most of every trip. He averaged 21 points, 5.3 rebounds, three assists and 1.2 steals in 21 games, all starts, with the Tulsa 66ers. Lamb made 49 percent of his shots and 35.2 percent of his 3-pointers. His performance earned him a selection to the D-League All-Star Game and solidified his reputation as one of the league's most promising prospects.

Work ethic: A. Lamb regularly was one of the last players on the court after practices and shootarounds, spending time with assistant coaches and other young players working on everything from one-on-one skills to pick and rolls and perimeter shooting. He always seemed to be a willing participant and eager to learn.

Defense: I. We rarely got to see what Lamb could or couldn't do on this end, at least not in OKC. He had an extremely encouraging five-minute stretch against Atlanta forward Josh Smith in mid-December. Still, defense is said to be the area Lamb needs to improve the most. Maybe he will. But it'll likely take time.

Demeanor: C. Lamb has a super laid back personality that can easily be misconstrued. He's so chill it seems at times as if he doesn't care. That trait is most confusing when Lamb's on the court. That's the gift and curse of having the ability to make the extraordinary look effortless. But more passion can't hurt.
