Edmond's library expands offerings for kids, adults

The Edmond Library averages 11 story sessions for kids every week.

— The Edmond Library is the busiest in the Metropolitan Library System with more than 1.3 million materials circulated last year, but it's also busy when it comes to putting together programs for kids.

The library averages about 11 story-time sessions for kids each week, and even that isn't enough in some cases. Manager Melody Kellogg said it's not unusual to see 50 or more parents and children at story sessions.

“The response has been tremendous, which is the reason we've had to offer more sessions,” she said. “We recently had one of our children's librarians retire, and we had more than 60 people there for her last story time. The demand is very strong.”

The library, 10 S Boulevard, also offers a monthly music program for moms and babies. There is a pajama time event on Thursday evenings, and reading to dogs remains popular, Kellogg said.

Those visiting the library for children's programs or otherwise will have plenty of comfortable seating. The library recently added 22 new lounge chairs. Eight have arms that can hold a book or computer.
