Fee increase for Yukon utility customers

Utility customers in Yukon saw a 3 percent increase on their last bill.

The fee increase affected about 8,400 households that are billed for water, garbage and sewage.

In 2007, city council members approved a plan to increase the rate every calendar year through 2010.  The 3 percent hike this year will be used to offset the cost of purchasing water from Oklahoma City.

There are only 15 wells located in Yukon.  Therefore, the city spends $1 million annually to purchase water from Oklahoma City.
