Lankford Presents Medals to World War II Hero
Edmond native Dr. Hall Duncan only recently learned that he had earned eight medals for his service in World War II. He contacted U.S. Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, for help getting his military records, and Lankford pinned the medals on Duncan on Friday.
“It is truly an honor to finally present these long-deserved medals to Dr. Hall Duncan,” Lankford said.
“For 67 years, Dr. Duncan did not have the full recognition for his service to our country. His service during World War II showed the courage and commitment of a man who put his country and his fellow soldiers ahead of his own well-being.
“The sacrifices that he made will outlast any medal. As a distinguished member of the greatest generation, Dr. Duncan’s life after World War II continues to demonstrate his love for God, his country and the next generation. Today’s ceremony was an opportunity to honor a true hero, and all of the Fifth District is proud to finally commend him for his unwavering devotion to our country.”
Duncan served in I Company, 3rd Battalion, 101st Infantry, 26th Division (Yankee Division), Third Army. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Private First Class.
Lankford presented him with these medals: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge 1st Award, and Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II.
