Superman III celebrates 30th anniversary

by Matthew Price Published: June 17, 2013

“Superman III,” which starred Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent and Superman and Richard Pryor as computer hacker Gus Gorman.  The film is much maligned – Entertainment Weekly today called it “arguably the worst superhero movie of all time” — but I maintain that if you re-watch the movie 30 years later, it’s probably better than you think it is.

It’s undoubtedly a step down from “Superman: The Movie” and “Superman II,” and in a lot of ways it’s more a Richard Pryor movie than a Superman one.   But it certainly is more enjoyable to watch than “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace,” and it does give us the Evil Superman vs. Good Clark Kent fight that could have been pulled right from the pages of a Silver Age comic book.
