Timeline: Tom Ward's career with SandRidge

Tom Ward timeline

1989: Ward co-founded Chesapeake Energy Corp. with Aubrey McClendon

1993: Chesapeake completes its initial public offering.

2006: Ward resigned from Chesapeake, bought a 46 percent stake in Amarillo-based Riata energy Inc. for $500 million, relocated the company to Oklahoma City and renamed it SandRidge Energy.

2007: SandRidge bought and moved into the former Kerr-McGee Tower. The company completed its initial public offering at $26 a share.

2013: SandRidge's stock price dipped below $5 a share. The company settled a proxy fight with dissident shareholders by adding four new directors to the board, which launched an investigation into Ward. He was terminated without cause Wednesday.
