What they're saying

First-term Councilman Ed Shadid announced Monday he is running for mayor. Mayor Mick Cornett has said he plans to decide later this summer whether to seek re-election. Here's what some civic leaders had to say about having Shadid in the mayor's office:

People would look at Oklahoma City as a place to live and to work and to raise a family, regardless of what their family may look like.”

Scott Hamilton, executive director of the Cimarron Alliance, the advocacy organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Oklahomans

I think he could make a great mayor. At this point I'm going to stay neutral.”

John Pettis, Ward 7 councilman

I would have no reservations with either one of them as mayor.”

James Greiner, Ward 1 councilman
