To celebrate 45 years in business, a libertarian magazine has named its “45 Enemies of Freedom.”
Reason magazine’s editors wrote that these aren’t necessarily bad people (Henry Kissinger, economist Paul Krugman and actress Jenny McCarthy made the list). Instead, the dishonorees actively work “to control individuals rather than allow them free choice, to wield power recklessly rather than act on the recognition that the stuff inherently corrupts, and to popularize lies in a world that’s desperate for truth.”
The list is in alphabetical order, with the exception of the person in the No. 1 slot — New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose term in office has been marked by repeated efforts to have government dictate personal behavior (see, large soda bans, trans fats bans, onerous tobacco rules).
One of the best zingers in the roundup was reserved for Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.: “Say Feinstein’s name in front of anybody who takes the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution seriously and watch that person’s face curdle.”
