Oklahoma City Thunder notebook: OKC draftees have reasons to be flattered

Three of the Thunder's draft picks were introduced during a news conference Saturday at the team's old practice facility and each has a reason to be flattered.

Three of the Thunder's draft picks were introduced during a news conference Saturday at the team's old practice facility and each has a reason to be flattered.


Center Steven Adams was chosen at No. 12, which made him a lottery pick (top 14) OKC's first selection in Thursday night's NBA Draft.

The Thunder moved up three places to obtain forward Andre Roberson from Golden State in exchange for the No. 29 pick and undisclosed cash considerations.

Shooting guard Alex Abrines, who did not attend Saturday's introduction, was selected at No. 32 and will continue to play pro ball in Spain next season.

Perhaps power forward Grant Jerrett should be the most flattered. The Thunder was out of picks and paid undisclosed cash considerations for Jerrett after Portland selected him at No. 40.

“The draft is so much about opportunities,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said. “When you have a group of people who you've identified as potential pick with your organization, you have to be opportunistic. We feel like we knew him (Jerrett) well.”

STRETCHING OUT

Jerrett is a 6-foot-10, 232-pound power forward who excels offensively from the outside, shooting 40.5 percent from 3-point range.

However, Jerrett said his game was not heavily influenced by players at the stretch-4 position such as Dirk Nowitzki.

“I always watched guys like Tim Duncan,” Jerrett said.
