Wagoner running back Lawrence Evitt working to draw interest, get ACT score up

SUPER 30 — No. 30 Lawrence Evitt of Wagoner was skyrocketing up recruiting lists, but that has changed. Considered by some to be undersized, Evitt also has another issue keeping colleges at bay: his academics.

Lawrence Evitt is trying to remain positive.

The Wagoner running back who rushed for 2,980 yards and 35 touchdowns as a junior to earn a spot on The Oklahoman's All-State team was skyrocketing up recruiting lists, but that has changed.

Evitt, at 5-foot-7 and 165 pounds, has yet to receive an official offer, causing him to fall on The Oklahoman's 2014 Super 30 list to No. 30 after opening at No. 7.

“A little bit, but not so much,” Evitt said about his frustration level. “I think about it a lot, but I play the game to get my mind right.”

Considered by some to be undersized, Evitt also has another issue keeping colleges at bay: his academics.

He is working on getting his ACT score up in hopes of receiving that first offer, which both he and Wagoner coach Dale Condict said would come from multiple schools as soon as Evitt meets NCAA standards.

And once that happens, Condict feels like the size issue will be overlooked.

“He's probably not any smaller than some of the guys you're watching in college football every Saturday lighting it up,” he said. “I don't coach college football, so I don't know how much. For some people it's an issue, but you see guys his size every year do well.

“It's not an issue in high school football. He's a physical kid that holds up fine.”
