OSU notebook: Cowboy basketball is looking up

Oklahoma State gets first commitment for the 2015 class, Austin Grandstaff, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Plano, Texas

These have been good days for the Cowboys basketball program.

Marcus Smart continues to represent the program, again drawing superlatives from coaches as one of the leaders of Team USA's U19 squad in the Czech Republic.

There's news that Gallagher-Iba Arena will get a much-needed upgrade in the form of a new scoreboard, which will be ready for the upcoming season.

And the Cowboys now have their first commitment — for the 2015 class.

Austin Grandstaff, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Plano, Texas, has given his pledge to OSU. A longtime target of the Cowboys, Grandstaff will be a junior at Plano West High.

Grandstaff is widely considered one of the top shooters in the 2015 class. He told Scout.com that his relationship with Cowboys coach Travis Ford, and OSU's system, were key factors in his decision.

“I like it a lot,” he told Scout.com. “They shoot a lot of 3s. They get out on the break a lot. You saw Phil Forte hit a lot of 3s. I think I can thrive in that system.”

BIG MEN ON THE RADAR

The Cowboys, like a lot of teams, have struggled to attract quality big men.
