Yukon catcher Jon Denney and Owasso first baseman Austin O’Brien were named to the MaxPreps 2013 Baseball All-American first team earlier this week.
Denney, The Oklahoman‘s All-State and Big All-City Player of the Year, hit .459 with 11 home runs and 46 RBIs for the Millers this season.
He was drafted in the third round by Boston and recently signed with the Red Sox.
O’Brien, an Oklahoma signee, hit .402 with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs. He earned Gatorade state player of the year honors.
Also named to the first team was Colleyville (Texas) Heritage outfielder and Oklahoma football signee Cody Thomas. Thomas hit .470 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs. Thomas was drafted by the Yankees but will not sign.
He has said he intends to play baseball at OU as well.
Two more with state ties were named to the second team. Carl Albert corner infielder Gavin LaValley, a junior, was one of just four underclassmen on the teams. LaValley hit .477 with 20 home runs and 76 RBIs for the 5A state champions.
Joining him on the second team was former Stillwater infielder Ryder Jones. Jones played in North Carolina as a senior, hitting .461 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs and earning Gatorade state player of the year honors.
Jones was drafted by the Giants in the second round and recently signed.
