Weather sets back opening for KD's in Bricktown

Wet weather delays Oklahoma City restaurant opening, which now is anticipated between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Lower Bricktown developer Randy Hogan jokes he may be to credit for the end to Oklahoma City's yearslong drought.

Construction began late last year on the latest addition — KD's — a restaurant being opened by the Hal Smith Group and Thunder star Kevin Durant. At the time of the October 2012 groundbreaking, Hogan estimated the restaurant would open by this fall.

After weeks of rain, however, Hogan is pushing the opening date to sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“The drought ended because we started construction,” Hogan joked Monday.

Smith, whose company owns the neighboring Toby Keith's I Love this Bar and Grill, as well as Charleston's, Louie's and Red Rock Canyon Grill, is planning a restaurant that will feature a mix of steaks, seafood and Southern comfort food, which will be personally tested by Durant.
