OKC RedHawks: New Orleans comes back in ninth, stuns RedHawks

The last-place Zephyrs won four of five games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Regular-season baseball goes dormant for the next three days for All-Star break.

A pesky, last-place New Orleans Zephyrs team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday night and beat the Oklahoma City RedHawks 7-6 before 4,332 fans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Zephyrs (49-49) won four of five games against the RedHawks (51-46), who enter the Pacific Coast League All-Star break third in the four-team South Division.


Former OU star and current New Orleans batting coach Damon Minor had the Zephyrs clicking on Sunday. Everyone in New Orleans' lineup but leadoff man Gorkys Hernandez had a hit. The No. 9-hole hitter, Chris Gutierrez was particularly effective, collecting four hits (two doubles) and the game-winning RBI. Gil Velazquez added three hits for the Zephyrs, which finished the game with 17 total. ... Oklahoma City managed seven hits, nobody with more than one. Robbie Grossman and Jon Singleton had solo home runs, which helped the Hawks tie the game after falling behind 2-0. ... Former Oklahoma City University standout Ruben Sosa had a team-best two RBIs for the RedHawks. Sosa also stole his sixth base of the season.


The RedHawks' Josh Zeid was credited with his first blown first save and fell to 4-1. Zeid was popped for all three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning; he allowed three hits and two walks in just one inning. ... The Zephyrs' Chris Hatcher threw the bottom of the ninth. Although OKC did get a runner on base, Hatcher notched his 27th save of the season.
