In the Lifetime movie “The Toyman Killer,” Sarah Carter of “Falling Skies” plays Kate Kovic, a criminal psychologist who is asked by her mentor to evaluate a young girl on death row.
Kate needs to determine if Christine Solter (Magda Apanowicz) has multiple personality disorder or if she’s only pretending to have this syndrome in order to escape the death penalty.
The psychologist only has seven days to evaluate Christine before her scheduled execution – and if Christine’s multiple personalities are real, they might be the key to unveiling a serial killer.
Kate’s decision to assist with Christine’s case is not a popular one, since the girl was sentenced to death row for the brutal murder of a police officer, and Kate receives threats during her investigation.
One detective, Ray Santana (David Haydn-Jones), does, however, offer to help Kate with her quest to find out the truth about Christine.
While Carter delivers a decent performance, the movie overall is mediocre, but does have a few creepy moments and unexpected turns.
“The Toyman Killer” premieres at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 20, on Lifetime.
