The statue was sculpted by then-state Sen. Kelly Haney, an American Indian of Seminole and Muscogee descent whose family followed the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma seven generations ago.

It stands 17 feet tall and holds a staff that is more than 22 feet tall. The statue took 10 months to make and required 4,000 pounds of bronze.
