TULSA — Four weeks before you can see Douglass and Tulsa Washington square off on the football field, you can see some of the schools' most revered former basketball players go head-to-head in an alumni game.
A group of organizers, led by former Tulsa Washington star Fred Jones, is expanding an alumni event that has been successful in Tulsa to include Oklahoma City.
Douglass High School will host two alumni games, one pitting the Trojans against Tulsa Washington, and another between Star Spencer and Tulsa McLain.
The games are set to begin at 5 p.m. on Aug. 10 at Douglass. Cost is $7, and children under 10 are admitted free with an adult.
Jones said the group plans to honor civic and community leaders from the Oklahoma City area and will have a special presentation from the State Capitol.
Well-known players from the past, including Shea Seals, R.W. McQuarters and Melvin Gilliam have participated in past games for their schools, and some of the same players are expected to make the trip to Oklahoma City next week.
