Similar to some players he's covered the past two-plus seasons, Barons digital media specialist Chris Wescott has been called up by the Edmonton Oilers.
Wescott, who was the face on videos at Barons' home games and wrote for the AHL team's website, has been hired to serve as the NHL team's website content coordinator.
Wescott began his career with Prodigal, which runs the Barons for the Oilers, as an intern in the 2010 summer while attending Central Oklahoma.
With Edmonton, Wescott will serve as the lead writer for the Oilers' website and provide video content, which will include panel discussions. He will cover all home games and approximately half the road games.
“I'm excited about the opportunity to achieve my goal of joining the NHL,” Wescott said. “The Oilers are one of the top teams in the league in web content and coverage. Although I'm sad to leave the people of OKC, I'm excited about working for the Oilers' fan base, the best fans in the NHL.”
Westcott, a UCO graduate, also worked with the now-defunct Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz arena football team and was a board operator and producer The Sports Animal radio station.
