Authorities suspect heat-related injuries caused the death of a 1-month-old infant Monday.
The baby girl and a 15-month-old sibling were traveling with the parents from Ohio to the Ringling area in a car without air conditioning and only one operable window, police said.
The woman brought the baby into a convenience store about 3:40 p.m. The baby was unconscious and not breathing. The parents called 911 and were given CPR instructions. Emergency responders took the baby girl to an emergency room, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The state Department of Human Services is assisting in this investigation. The 15-month-old child was taken into protective custody until the investigation can be completed.
