The new Class 6A Division II schools have agreed to divide to an eastern district and a western district, coaches confirmed to The Oklahoman.
Coaches and athletic directors from the 15 schools — not including U.S. Grant — met Friday in Sapulpa and voted 10-5 in favor of the split.
Ponca City will remain in the eastern district and Stillwater will be in the western district. Eight schools will be in the east and seven schools will be in the west.
U.S. Grant did not vote since it will play as an independent the next four years.
The eastern district will be comprised of Bartlesville, Bixby, Claremore, Muskogee, Ponca City, Sand Springs, Sapulpa and Tulsa Washington.
The western district will be comprised of Choctaw, Enid, Lawton, Lawton Eisenhower, Midwest City, Putnam City West and Stillwater.
The plan now goes to the Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association for approval, which is likely to happen in October.
Class 6A Division I coaches are scheduled to meet Thursday in Oklahoma City.
