DEFENSIVE END POSITION BATTLE SHAPING UP
Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer gave some insight on the ongoing position battle at end following Saturday's scrimmage, revealing that junior college transfer Sam Wren continues to progress but that sophomore Jimmy Bean has been injured at times during camp.
“Jimmy has gotten banged up a little — nothing serious — so we've had to rep a lot of other guys in camp and every day is getting better and better,” Spencer said. “Sam has been a good surprise. He's going to get a lot of reps and a lot of playing time for us.”
Bean redshirted in 2012 after an early knee injury hampered his ability to get on the field. Wren arrived at OSU in time to participate in spring ball and was a three-star prospect out of Arizona Western Community College.
OSU must replace three contributors at defensive end from last season in Ryan Robinson, Nigel Nicholas and Cooper Bassett.
THIRD RUNNING BACK STILL TBD
The Cowboys appear to have their 1-2 running back duo set, with senior Jeremy Smith taking over the starting job and junior Desmond Roland ready for increased action in the backup spot.
Beyond those two? That's still a bit of a mystery.
“I still think it's going to take some time for that to sort out,” offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said.
But no worries, Smith said. He's been impressed by the group, including true freshmen Corion Webster and Rennie Childs.
