As previously reported, Oklahoma red dirt rocker Stoney LaRue was featured earlier this month on CMT’s “Concrete Country,” a series dedicated to music discovery with an emphasis on artists who write their own songs.

Launched in March 2012, the series has featured outdoor performances by the likes of Harrah native Jason Boland, the Lumineers, First Aid Kit and Trampled by Turtles, as well as Caitlin Rose, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Green River Ordinance, Lydia Loveless, Robert Ellis, the Farewell Drifters, the Infamous Stringdusters, Will Hoge and Yarn. Oklahoma red dirt band the Turnpike Troubadours will be featured on next Tuesday’s episode, premiering at 10:50 p.m.

For his episode of the series, the Oklahoma City resident performed outside the famed Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, the famed venue that helped launch his music career 15 years ago. He and his band played the new song “Easy She Comes,” his ode “Travelin’ Kind from his 2011 album “Velvet” and Oklahoma music mainstay Mike Hosty’s “Oklahoma Breakdown” on the show.

In a recent interview, Stoney told me that he has heard that country superstar Luke Bryan has become a fan of “Oklahoma Breakdown” since the show aired.

Stoney and I chatted by phone last week in honor of his upcoming OKC show. The red dirt music star will be back in Oklahoma to play Red Dirt at the Zoo II Saturday at Oklahoma City’s Zoo Amphitheatre. The lineup also will include Texas country standouts Wade Bowen and Aaron Watson. A portion of all ticket sales will benefit the OKStrong Disaster Relief Fund. Look for my interview with Stoney on Friday, and in the meantime, check out these videos from his “Concrete Country” episode:
