Owasso resident Trisha Yearwood told “CBS This Morning” that she and her husband, fellow country star and Oklahoma native Garth Brooks, have plans to create a new album together and eventually go on tour.
“It’ll be a whole different ball game, you know, as man and wife to go do this together. So I’m looking forward to it,” Yearwood told Jeff Glor.
The Grammy Award-winning country music star also hinted at a collaboration with Kelly Clarkson and Oklahoma native Reba McEntire, in an interview that was broadcast today on CBS. It’s been six years since Yearwood has released an album, but she told CBS she has a solo effort planned.
“We have become friends. And I love both of them,” Yearwood said. “And we have been toying with the thought of working together. And Kelly’s working on a little something that we sang on.”
When asked if the group was working on a full album or only one song, Yearwood said, “It’s one song at this point. Right now.”
Yearwood also talked about her second career as a cookbook author and Food Network personality as well as her recent weight loss.
Interestingly enough, over at the typically sparse Garthbrooks.com, a dramatically new announcement has popped up – “Be the first to know” – along with an invitation to sign up for his e-newsletter.
As previously reported, Brooks, who entered semiretirement in 2001 and has eked out only a smattering of new songs since, indicated at Toby Keith’s Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert last month that he anticipated making fresh music soon. Brooks vowed back in 2001 to stay mostly off the road and out of the studio until his three daughters were grown, and the youngest, Allie, turns 17 on July 28.
“New music feels like it’s on the horizon, so it’s starting to bubble and it’s getting fun,” Brooks told reporters backstage last month.
Here are excerpts of Yearwood’s CBS interview:
YEARWOOD: Garth and I made the decision when we got married, which is almost eight years now, which is hard to believe, that we would not be together to be apart. We had done that in our lives, you know?
She’s planning a new solo album and eventually a tour, she told CBS, along with Brooks.
YEARWOOD: This will be our third go-around. But it’ll be a whole different ball game, you know, as man and wife to go do this together. So I’m looking forward to it.
GLOR: So, forgive me, is this an album together then, as well?
YEARWOOD: That is part of the plan.
GLOR: Kelly Clarkson tweets a photo showing your name and Reba’s name –
GLOR: In the studio.
GLOR: What’s happening?
YEARWOOD: I don’t know. We have become friends. And I love both of them. And we have been toying with the thought of working together. And Kelly’s working on a little something that we sang on.
GLOR: So this is one song, not a full album –
YEARWOOD: It’s one song at this point. Right now.
GLOR: So do you want people to think of you right now as a singer or a cook?
YEARWOOD: Yes! I mean, if you said, “Trisha, you have to pick one thing that you can do every day for the rest of your life,” I would pick music. I feel like that was what God put me on the planet to do. I really do believe that that is what feeds my soul. I do.
