The Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery at Oklahoma City University will host a touring art exhibit featuring Golden Kite children’s book award winners. A public opening reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the gallery at the Norick Art Center on N.W. 26th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. The exhibit is open through Oct. 20 and is made possible by donations from Enable Midstream Partners, LP and OGE Energy Corp.
The “Golden Kite, Golden Dreams” exhibit features award winners from 1974 to 2010. It includes artwork from some of the most prestigious and influential artists in the children’s book publishing industry with mediums ranging from ink, pencil, acrylic, gouache, watercolors and paper cutting. There are 50 artists and 75 pieces represented in the exhibit.
The Golden Kite Awards are presented annually by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). The award program was established in 1972 to recognize excellence in children’s literature.
The contest is judged by a jury of peers consisting of children’s book writers and illustrators. Contestants are divided into four categories — Fiction, Nonfiction, Picture Book Text and Picture Book Illustration.
