Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said the Sooners quarterback competition ultimately came down to one thing: consistency.

Last week, Stoops named redshirt quarterback Trevor Knight the starter for this weekend's season opener vs. Louisiana-Monroe.

"It's fair to say that overall, thru all the practices, there's just been a little more consistency (with Knight)," Stoops said.

While Knight will start, Stoops warned not to dismiss junior Blake Bell too quickly.

"We feel (Bell) is a guy, the way he's prepared, he can win for us as well," Stoops said.

Stoops also said the Sooners will likely continue to use Bell in short-yardage situations.

OU takes on Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday in Norman at 6 p.m. The game is being televised on pay-per view.
