Third annual Gypsy Cafe to bring red dirt and indie rock to Stillwater Oct. 4

by Brandy McDonnell Published: August 26, 2013

More than 35 Oklahoma singer-songwriters representing a mix of genres from red Dirt to indie rock will play various Stillwater venues Oct. 4 during the third annual Gypsy Cafe.

Oklahoma talents including Tom Skinner, Parker Millsap, Red Dirt Rangers and Andy Brewer of Taddy Porter will play the event, according to today’s initial announcement. Additional musicians will be announced at reddirtrelieffund.org and on social media in the coming weeks. A complete lineup by venue will be available Sept. 17 at reddirtrelieffund.org.

Now in its third year, Gypsy Café is not just another music festival. It is a musical adventure with some of Oklahoma’s best talent, both emerging and renowned. Homegrown artists from mixed genres and geographies will gather in Stillwater to collaborate in acoustic sets. The players will perform from 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 4 in four venues near Stillwater’s famed The Strip: Eskimo Joe’s, 501 W Elm; Stonewall Tavern, 115 S Knoblock; The College Bar, 319 S Washington; and Willie’s, 323 S Washington.

The result is a format that allows fans to bounce from venue to venue, experiencing the best of what Oklahoma music has to offer in a new and surprising way. The night will end with an all-musician finale on the outdoor stage at Eskimo Joe’s.

All proceeds of the festival will benefit Red Dirt Relief Fund, a nonprofit organization founded and administrated by red dirt musicians in Stillwater to offer a safety net of critical assistance to Oklahoma musicians statewide.

Festival passes that allow access to all four venues will be sold for $25 ($20 with student identification) at www.reddirtreleiffund.org and at The Territory in Stillwater. Individual venue tickets (up to capacity) will be available day of show at the door for $10 per venue. Service fees may apply.
