Today is International Read Comics in Public Day. It’s also Jack Kirby’s birthday. If you like, you can celebrate both by reading a Jack Kirby comic book in public. More about Kirby’s birthday at the Kirby Museum. More about Read Comics in Public Day at the Facebook page.
Kirby would have been 96 this year, and created or co-created a laundry list of popular comics characters, including the X-Men, the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. Some comic stores around the country are donating a portion of sales today to Kirby4Heroes, a campaign to help comics creators in need. You can find more about that at the Kirby Museum as well. Kirby died on Feb. 6, 1994.
This is the fourth year for Read Comics in Public; it began in 2010 as an effort promote comic books and comics readership.
