The Toby Keith Foundation is celebrating Labor Day by launching a new family-friendly event, Kones for the Korral, an all-you-can-eat ice cream festival, today.

Kones for the Korral will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Chatenay Square, 10600 S Pennsylvania.

“September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and it is important to us to launch an event in September that recognizes the need for continued, pediatric-specific research and treatments,” said Juliet Nees-Bright, executive director of The Toby Keith Foundation, in a news release.

Bright continued, “Our hope is to provide a cost-free home to children fighting cancer and see every one of them grow into healthy, happy adults. Supporting Childhood Cancer Awareness activities means that someday our hope may be a reality.”

All of the proceeds from Kones for the Korral will go toward the completion of OK Kids Korral, a home for pediatric cancer patients to stay with their families while receiving outpatient cancer treatment in OKC. OK Kids Korral, a project of the Toby Keith Foundation, is under construction in downtown Oklahoma City now and opens this fall.

Kones for the Korral will be an annual event supporting the foundation and will feature ice cream from Braum’s, Hiland Dairy, Blue Bell Creameries and Freddy’s Frozen Custard. Each company is providing four different flavors, so there will be plenty of brainfreeze for everyone.

Families also may enjoy the children’s area with a water slide, face painting, pony rides, moon bounces and a free hot dog from Bar S.

Tickets are $8 per adult and $3 for children ages 3 to 12. Children younger than 3 eat free.
