Browsing Twitter over the weekend, I saw the normal items you would normally see on Twitter about NewsOK.com.
Lots of shared stories from our site — retweets and the like. Lots of good feelings about our #MyOklahoma series.
Some criticism about specific stories. Some rhetorical, snarky comments in general.
Then I was shocked by this …
The NewsBox feature of the @NewsOK app is so cool!

Don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t shocked because it was a positive comment about one of our products. I was shocked because we just don’t see a lot of NewsBox chatter on Twitter. We haven’t really pushed NewsBox. The positive feedback we’ve received (and we have received more than just that one tweet) has come organically through the months. Most of the recent feedback comes from one-on-one conversation after we introduce it to someone. The rest of it came after we launched a tutorial video about it last year.
There’s good reason for the positive feedback. NewsBox is a cool feature that allows users to be alerted to stories about topics they are interested in. You can even choose to get alerts when your favorite reporter or columnist has a news story or blog posts. It’s all driven by the categories and bylines on a story.
But here’s the trick about our NewsBox functionality. It’s only available on the NewsOK app that is available for iOS devices. NewsBox is not available yet on our full NewsOK site or on our NewsOK Mobile site.
So if you haven’t tried NewsBox, download our app and give it a shot. You’ll see immediately that the app looks and operates much like the NewsOK Mobile website, so it’s not a big change to get used to.
But if NewsOK Mobile is good enough for you, you can save the icon on your mobile home screen and use it just like you would an app.
In the end, it doesn’t matter to me if you use NewsOK.com’s full website or NewsOK Mobile or the NewsOK app. We just want to deliver news to you in the most convenient way possible.
