Traffic accidents take two lives in Oklahoma

A fatal crash occurred in Roger Mills County northbound on U.S. 283. One woman died and another was taken to a hospital, along with her two sons.

A woman was killed in a traffic accident Thursday morning on U.S. 283 in Roger Mills County, and a man died after a wreck in Latimer County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

David Chester, 66, Wilburton

Chester was driving north on State Highway 2 about 2:30 p.m. when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road about 2.8 miles south of Wilburton.

The vehicle rolled, and Chester was thrown out.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Chester was not wearing a seat belt.

Elva Garcia, 49, Elk City

Garcia was driving a car north on U.S. 283 about 7 a.m. when her car went left of center and hit a pickup head-on, troopers said.

The pickup was driven by Kara Beth Smith, 34, of Cheyenne. Her two sons, Stockton Smith, 12, and Cord Smith, 7, were passengers.

Garcia was pinned in her car for more than two hours. She was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Kara Smith was pinned in her pickup for about an hour. She and her two sons were taken to a hospital.

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing seat belts, troopers said. has disabled the comments for this article.
