Kai Callins ran for 115 yards and a touchdown Friday night, helping Class 5A's No. 3-ranked Guthrie coast to a 62-13 high school football victory over Ponca City at Jelsma Stadium.
The game was never in doubt as the Bluejays led 42-6 by halftime. Callins' 4-yard TD run gave Guthrie a 7-0 lead early in the game. Senior wideout Donovan Jordan added five catches for 114 yards, including a 31-yard TD pass from Reed Roberts in the first quarter.
Guthrie (2-0) forced five turnovers and held the Wildcats (0-2) to minus-21 yards rushing.
PUTNAM CITY ROUTS WEST
Putnam City remained unbeaten — and won its school district's championship — by routing Putnam City West 43-12 on Friday night. Putnam City beat its other sister school, Putnam City North, 34-7 a week ago.
JaVon Knox scored touchdowns from 8 and 46 yards on Friday night for Putnam City (2-0). Denzel Dean added 8- and 11-yard TD runs for the Pirates.
Steven Stallings threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns for Putnam City West (1-1).
TITANS THUMP COWETA
Defending 5A state champion Carl Albert rebounded from a Week 1 loss by trouncing Coweta, 43-7.
Stevie Thompson completed 8 of 16 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns. Thompson added a TD run as the No. 1-ranked Titans improved to 1-1.
HUSKIES TROUNCE CHOCTAW
Edmond North rolled up 426 yards and 27 first downs, cruising past Choctaw 42-3 in a Class 6A game. Ezell McIntee and Richard McCauley each scored two touchdowns for Edmond North (1-1).
Choctaw (1-1), which managed a 23-yard field goal from Jacob McMullen, committed three turnovers.
CHA BOUNCES ST. MARY
Micah Wilson had touchdown runs of 4, 32 and 3 yards as Christian Heritage beat Mount St. Mary, 33-14.
St. Mary (0-2) had a 7-0 lead after the first quarter on Matt Peace's 1-yard TD run, but Wilson scored twice in the second quarter to help the Crusaders (1-1) take control.
HATCHELL LEADS HENNESSEY
Quarterback Dylan Hatchell accounted for five touchdowns as Class 2A's No. 5-ranked Hennessey routed visiting Jones, 40-13. Hatchell completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 155 yards and three TDs.
RACERS OVERWHELM VERDIGRIS
Zach Bergt scored four touchdowns Friday night during Newcastle's 51-7 whipping of Verdigris. Bergt ran for 8-, 12- and 15-yard touchdowns. He added a 34-yard fumble return for a TD on defense as the Racers improved to 2-0.
LUTHER OUTLASTS HINTON
The Luther Lions are 2-0 after a 36-22 triumph over Hinton in a Class 2A game.
Hinton (1-1) took an early lead on Jacob Spady's 14-yard touchdown pass to Brennen Sniff. But Luther, trailing 6-0 at halftime, took the lead for good in the third quarter on Morice Wright's 46-yard run and 20-yard TD pass from Seth Stivers.
The teams were penalized a combined 20 times for 210 yards.
Class 3A's No. 2-ranked Seminole coasted to a 35-7 victory over Tecumseh. Doc Harvey had 40- and 30-yard touchdown passes to Xavier Freeman. ... Zach Stephens and Dillon Queen each ran for two touchdowns as Harrah blanked Piedmont, 29-0. ... Jacob Overton collected 163 yards on 17 carries during Minco's 43-0 rout of Wayne. Overton scored three touchdowns, one on a 31-yard punt return. ... Garber mashed Waukomis 62-16 behind Dallas Hunt, who ran for five touchdowns and passed for another. ... Okemah had three 100-yard rushers in its 48-28 victory over Prague. Randal Locust ran for 166 yards, Tack Murray added 123 and Tanner Britt rolled up 111. Murray had three touchdowns. ... Quarterback Jake Standlee scored two TDs as Meeker hammered Wewoka, 37-7. ... Class 4A's No. 5-ranked Anadarko remained unbeaten after it smashed Centennial, 62-0.
