Finally, you say, a home football game to celebrate this season and relieve a week’s worth of attacks on your program.
And it’s about time the Cowboys get home, after playing their first two deep-in-the-hearta Texas.
But it’s a big weekend for the OSU basketball program, too.
Travis Ford and Co. will be hosting 6-8 standout Devin Robinson, currently ranked as the No. 24 prospect in the country by Scout.com. Robinson, out of Richmond, Va., has enjoyed a meteoric rise as a prospect, after being well off the radar as recently as a year ago.
Now, as far as comparisons go, Robinson’s summer-league coach Tony Squire offers up an enticing model: Kevin Durant.
“I’m telling you, I’ve watched Kevin Durant grow up,” Squire told the website. “He reminds me of Kevin Durant. He has this long, lean body and people say he’s a stretch 4 or 3. He can really put it in the basket, he’s athletic, but once he gets stronger he’s going to be just like Durant. He’s got the same body type and everything.”
Robinson will be joined in Stillwater by his parents and Squire, with OSU representing one of his five official vists, along with Notre Dame, Indiana, Florida and Connecticut. He also has offers from Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Michigan and others, clearly portraying his status as an elite prospect.
Robinson’s visit coincides with the OSU basketball program’s alumni weekend, with many former Cowboys on hand.
What are OSU’s chances of landing Robinson? They’re already deep in the mix by securing a coveted official visit. And Ford and his staff have been on Robinson from the outset of his rise to prominent recruit.
“They weren’t on him initially,” Squire said in the report, “but once the season started again they got on it, and they got on it hard. And they haven’t missed a beat since.
“Travis (Ford) and Butch Pierre haven’t missed a beat. They’ve been at all our games. One of the other was at all of our games in Orlando (at the AAU Super Showcase in July) and everywhere else.”
