Oklahoma releases 2014 non-conference schedule

Oklahoma’s 2014 non-conference schedule is highlighted by Tennessee’s first-ever visit to Norman.

The Volunteers will play at OU on Sept. 13, the school announced Thursday.

The teams have met just twice, both in the Orange Bowl. Oklahoma beat Tennessee 26-24 in the 1968 game and Tennessee beat the Sooners 17-0 in the 1939 Orange Bowl. That game was OU’s first bowl game.

Oklahoma will travel to Tennessee in 2015.

“We have always strived to feature marquee non-conference opponents on the Oklahoma schedule,” OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said in a release. “Our longtime philosophy of scheduling high-caliber FBS opponents becomes even more important in 2014 with strength of schedule factoring into the College Football Playoff equation.”

The Sooners will host Louisiana Tech on Aug. 30 in the team’s first-ever meeting.

Oklahoma will also play at Tulsa on Sept. 20. The Sooners beat the Golden Hurricane 51-20 on Saturday.

The Big 12 schedule will be released at a later date.
