Sex offender Arnando White has been caught with a cellphone eight times since the start of 2012, more than any other Oklahoma prison inmate during that time.
White, 38, is serving a 50-year sentence at the R.B. Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy. He was convicted of lewd molestation more than 15 years ago in Stephens County.
State prison officials have issued 3,076 separate misconducts for cellphone-related incidents between Jan. 1, 2012, and July of this year, according to Corrections Department records provided to The Oklahoman.
White was cited in one instance when guards found a cellphone hidden in the frame of his cell window, the records show. Another time, a phone was found in plain sight on White's bunk. During a strip search in October, guards found a device in the inmate's underwear.
In February, White also was caught with seven tablets of Xanax, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety, records show.
Dozens of inmates were caught with cellphones more than once. More than 50 inmates were caught with cellphones at least four times since the start of 2012.
Caught four times was Brandon Timmons, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2010 for his part in the shooting death of Stevon LaDale Hammond, the records show. The victim was the grandson of Oklahoma County Commissioner Willa Johnson.
Tushkahomma Leon, convicted of first-degree murder in 1994, has been caught with a cellphone four times, the records show.
At age 15, Leon killed his grandmother, her husband and an 8-year-old girl in Latimer County.
