NEWCASTLE, OKLA. – Newcastle Casino’s Outdoor Concert Series continues tonight with rockers Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. Opening act Midnight Revival will take the stage prior to the headliner. Electric Avenue Duo will close out the evening inside Newcastle Casino on the entertainment stage.
Gates open at 6 p.m., the show starts at 7 p.m., and the headliner goes on at 8:30 p.m. The outdoor concerts will take place in the north parking lot of Newcastle Casino, at the junction of I-44 and Highway 62 in Newcastle.
Joan Jett, an originator, innovator and visionary, has notched eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.”
She broke into the music scene in 1975 as a founding member of the pioneering all-girl teenage punk band The Runaways, which released five albums and became a worldwide hit before disbanding in 1979. The 2010 film “The Runaways” told the band’s story, with A-lister Kristen Stewart portraying Jett.
Today, Jett is continuously touring the world and running her own independent label, Blackheart Records, which she launched in 1980, making her the first female artist to own and operate an independent record company.
In 2003, “Rolling Stone” ranked her No. 87 of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. She and Joni Mitchell were the only two women on the list.
Admission to tonight’s show is free. Attendees must be 18 or older.
Food and refreshment vendors will be on-site, for purchase, and options will include selections from the casino’s restaurants, Stone House Pizzeria and Blackjack Grill, as well as La Luna’s taco truck. Other retailers will be set up to provide the full concert experience. Outside food and drink will be prohibited. All attendees will receive $10 in Rewards Play from Newcastle Casino.
