Guide to No. 7 Lawton at Edmond Memorial

by Jacob Unruh Modified: September 27, 2013 at 10:05 am •  Published: September 27, 2013

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Where: Wantland Stadium, Edmond

Records: Lawton 3-0; Edmond Memorial 2-1

Last week: Lawton 52, Altus 0; Edmond Memorial 40, Deer Creek 10

Players to watch: Lawton — Ivan Thomas, DT. The Texas Tech commitment is off to a strong start with 21 tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries this season. The spotlight will really be on him against a star running back like Memorial’s Warren Wand.

Edmond Memorial — Jordan Weltzheimer, OL. The senior has been receiving interest from the service academies and Yale. He’s a big reason for the Bulldogs’ success on the ground.

Storylines: Lawton — The Wolverines can run the ball. Mike Warren already has 655 yards and eight touchdowns on 62 carries. The goal will be getting him the ball.

Edmond Memorial — Like Warren, the Bulldogs have their own star running back with Wand, who has 546 yards and five TDs on 74 carries. It really should be a fun matchup to watch, as we wrote earlier this week here.

The pick: Lawton 28, Edmond Memorial 20
