Bishop McGuinness started the district portion of its football season on the right foot Friday night in El Reno.
Quarterback Jacob Lewis ran for four touchdowns and passed for two more, leading Class 5A's No. 10-ranked McGuinness to a 56-13 victory over the Indians. Lewis' TD runs covered 4, 33, 39 and 15 yards. He threw 29- and 37-yard scoring passes to Jordan Edwards.
The Irish improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in District 5A-2. McGuinness had started the season 0-2.
CHOCTAW OUTLASTS PATRIOTS
Jonah Llanusa passed for 202 yards and ran for 122 more Friday night as Choctaw beat Putnam City West, 59-35. Llanusa accounted for four touchdowns for the Yellowjackets (3-1). Caleb Shimp added 240 yards and three touchdowns rushing to help Choctaw charge to a 35-7 lead by halftime.
Putnam City West quarterback Steven Stallings, The Oklahoman's Player of the Week for a Sept. 20 performance against Putnam City North, passed for four touchdowns and ran for another against Choctaw. The Patriots fell to 2-2.
CENTENNIAL ROUTS BETHEL
Centennial had its District 3A-3 opener with Bethel in hand by halftime, beating the Wildcats 35-13 in Oklahoma City. Quarterback Malcolm Mitchell ran for three touchdowns and passed for another. Stephan Perry added 133 yards and a TD on 13 carries for Centennial (3-1).
GUTHRIE'S CALLINS SCORES FOUR TDs
Class 5A's No. 2-ranked Guthrie made its long journey to Guymon worthwhile. Kai Callins ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns in the unbeaten Bluejays' 63-0 victory. On defense, Callins also returned an interception for a TD. Guymon (0-4) had little luck against the Bluejays' defense, finishing with minus-52 yards rushing.
SAINTS ROCK CROOKED OAK
Oklahoma Christian School quarterback Will McKinnis threw five touchdown passes as Class 2A's No. 3-ranked team stunned Crooked Oak 50-7 in a game between unbeatens. McKinnis threw 77- and 39-yard scoring passes to Connor Sikes. Luke Frankfurt added to the Saints' barrage with 1- and 4-yard TD runs.
EDMOND NORTH ROLLS
Edmond North coasted to a 28-0 triumph over Putnam City North on Friday night at Putnam City Stadium. Quarterback Steven McClernan threw 14- and 22-yard touchdown passes to Luke Rossi to help Edmond North move to 2-2. Putnam City North fell to 0-4.
PEACE LEADS ST. MARY
Mount St. Mary rolled to a 50-22 victory over Bridge Creek. Matt Peace had 11-, 5- and 12-yard touchdown runs for St. Mary (2-2). Joe Castiglione added 32- and 37-yard TD runs for the Rockets (2-2). Jimmy Wynne had three touchdown passes for Bridge Creek (0-4).
CASE SCORES WINNER FOR JONES
Andrew Case scored from a yard with 4:05 left in the game, and then added a 2-point conversion run as previously winless Jones stunned previously unbeaten Marlow, 15-14.
Jones recovered from 6-0 and 14-7 deficits in the district opener. Clayton Sims' 15-yard touchdown pass to Levi Fox accounted for the Longhorns' other score.
BLANCHARD RIPS LITTLE AXE
Braden Stringer and Blake Owen combined for five touchdowns as defending Class 3A state champion Blanchard routed Little Axe 40-3 in a district opener. Stringer had 75-, 26- and 9-yard touchdown runs for the Lions, who are 4-0. Owen added 36- and 5-yard TD runs.
Little Axe fell to 2-2.
ROLIN LEADS PURCELL
Purcell quarterback Drew Rolin threw for two touchdowns and ran for two as Purcell hammered Pauls Valley, 55-13. Rolin's TD passes covered 7 and 19 yards to Nic Northcutt. Dominique Gavia added two TD runs for the Dragons, who moved to 3-1.
ARNDT SCORES 4 TOUCHDOWNS
William Arndt scored four touchdowns Friday night, leading Class 2A's No. 5-ranked Hennessey to a 38-14 pounding of Tulsa Noah. Arndt's scoring runs covered 49, 8, 3 and 43 yards.
Hennessey (3-1) played without regular quarterback Dylan Hatchell, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damaged lateral meniscus. Tony Mendoza replaced Hatchell on Friday night, passing for 94 yards, including touchdowns to Jose Sanchez and Steven Lott.
