While Oklahoma State quarterback J.W. Walsh sputtered against West Virginia — he finished 20-of-47 and threw two bad interceptions — the social media world began to clamor for the return of opening day starter Clint Chelf.
Did Gundy ever consider making that switch? Not really, he said.
“We were never really in a situation where we had to be in an all-pass situation,” Gundy said, “so it never really crossed our mind because, right up until the end, we had opportunities.
“We just didn't execute very well. And (Walsh) didn't throw the ball as well as he needs to.”
Walsh, of course, replaced Chelf after he was ineffective in two series against Mississippi State in Week 1.
NO WORD FROM BIG 12 FOLLOWING GILBERT EJECTION
Starting cornerback Justin Gilbert was ejected late against West Virginia for a flagrant personal foul after throwing punches during a confrontation with a Mountaineer player.
According to the NCAA rule book, Big 12 Conference officials will review the play to determine if any additional sanctions are in order regarding Gilbert for OSU's next game against Kansas State. And as of Sunday evening, Gundy said he had not had any contact with the conference.
