Blake Griffin says 'Lob City' is dead

R.I.P. “Lob City.” Say it ain’t so, Blake.

According to the former OU high flyer, “Lob City” is dead in Los Angeles. Griffin says with the arrival of Doc Rivers as Clippers head coach, the team is going to focus more on defense this season, according to ESPN’s Shelly Smith in this report this week.

A more “defensive-minded culture” is what Griffin says Rivers has been stressing. Griffin also said his offensive game is going to chance noticeably.

“Our offense is going to have a totally different look this year,” Griffin told Smith.

Maybe that’s good for the Clippers, who were a middle-of-the pack defensive team last year. Maybe that’s good for Griffin, whose above-the-rim forays have put his body at risk throughout his career. But if Lob City in fact “doesn’t exist anymore,” what does that make the Clippers?

Ordinary City? Pass City? Halfcourt City? Celtics Redux City?

Something tells me it’s going to be tough to keep Griffin and the dunk monster that is DeAndre Jordan grounded for long. But if Blake’s telling the truth, cherish the moments like these while you can …
