The Oklahoman staff picks the top games of Week 5

by Scott Wright Published: October 3, 2013

Jacob swept the board last week, going 10-0, but Trent, with his second straight 9-1 week, held onto the top spot in the rankings. Here are the staff picks for the top 10 games of Week 5:

Scott
Carl Albert 42, McGuinness 34
McAlester 47, Shawnee 42
Norman North 41, Yukon 38
Del City 45, Ardmore 28
Thomas 48, Apache 20
Adair 28, Nowata 21
Edmond Santa Fe 48, Mustang 42
Davenport 56, Dewar 54
Jenks 56, Sapulpa 14
Weatherford 24, Woodward 21
Lock of the Week: Del City over Ardmore. Don’t let the 2-2 record deceive. The Eagles are for real. Look for a big performance from the defense in this one.

Lock of the week: Jenks over Sapulpa. Sapulpa is off to a hot start, but it hasn’t faced a team nearly as talented as Jenks.

Trent
Carl Albert 28, McGuinness 21
McAlester 45, Shawnee 38
Norman North 42, Yukon 35
Del City 38, Ardmore 27

Davenport 44, Dewar 40
Jenks 35, Sapulpa 14
Weatherford 28, Woodward 24
Lock of the Week: Carl Albert over McGuinness. Carl Albert quarterback Stevie Thompson showed last week why he’s considered one of the most electrifying players in the state with six touchdowns in a win over Deer Creek. Now that Thompson has the offense rolling, not even a solid McGuinness defense can stop the Titans.

Trent
Last week: 9-1, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 29-11, Lock: 4-0

Scott
Last week: 9-1, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 28-12, Lock: 4-0

Jacob
Last week: 10-0, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 26-14, Lock: 3-1
