Merv Johnson has been on Oklahoma’s football staff since joining as an assistant coach in 1979. He began serving in his current role, which also includes color commentary on OU radio broadcasts, in 1998.

He didn’t miss Oklahoma’s home game Saturday against TCU. Oklahoma’s official Twitter account sent a tweet just before kickoff, saying, “football is the best therapy for his family tonight.”
