GUTHRIE — A man arrested in the shooting death of a prostitute told investigators he planned to use a knife or strangle her and have sex with her, but he had to use a gun instead because she arrived with two other people, court records state.
Timothy Earl Slawson, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Mindy Dawn Carder, 33, of Oklahoma City. Carder's partially clothed body was found Friday at a Logan County dead-end road in the 9900 block of S Bryant Ave.
Slawson said he had sex with her after she died, but “only for a short time because she was dead and it just wasn't right,” according to an affidavit filed in Logan County District Court.
The document attached to the charge states Slawson used a cellphone Thursday to arrange a meeting with a prostitute he found on a website. He planned to use a knife or strangle her when she arrived, the affidavit states.
According to the document, Slawson went to a vacant house at 3400 Holly Chappell Road and broke into it. He took blankets and pillows from his nearby house at 3233 Eric Lane.
Carder arrived at the vacant house with another prostitute, identified in the court documents as Erin Smith, and a man identified as Pierre Lamont Whiteside, who drove them to the house.
When Slawson saw there were three people, he told Carder he needed to get more money and left the vacant house to go home to get a .38-caliber pistol, according to the affidavit.
Slawson shot Carder at the vacant house as Smith hid in a closet; Whiteside sped off as Slawson fired the pistol at him, according to the affidavit.
Carder managed to get out of the house and collapsed in a ditch across the street.
Smith called 911 and reported she heard shots fired but didn't know what had happened to Carder. Smith was “misleading,” and deputies were unable to find her at the scene, said Chief Deputy Richard Stephens, a Logan County sheriff's investigator.
Carder was convicted in 2009 of rape. The case involved Carder and a woman who provided teenage boys with sex in exchange for drugs.
The affidavit states Slawson drove to a relative's house for the night.
Stephens said Carder's body was discovered about 9 a.m. Friday by a passer-by at S Bryant Avenue near Simpson Road. Smith had Slawson's cellphone number on her phone, and he was arrested later that day.
The affidavit states Slawson told investigators he has been killing animals, mostly cats, for the past couple of years.
Slawson is being held without bail in the Logan County jail.
