When: 7 p.m., Thursday
Where: Jelsma Stadium
Records: El Reno 2-4, 1-2 District 5A-2; Guthrie 6-0, 3-0
Players to watch: El Reno — Justin Brown, Ath. What doesn’t Brown do? Last week he scored the Indians’ four touchdowns, bringing his season total to 13. He leads the team in rushing, receiving and tackles. On most nights, the argument could be made that he is the best player on the field.
Guthrie — Kai Callins, RB. Callins is likely the best player on the field Thursday, but how healthy is he? He banged up his knee a little bit in last week’s win against Carl Albert, but played through it. The Bluejays will need him to remain their best weapon.
Bonus: Check out this story by my friend Scott Wright on Guthrie’s Idae Alexander.
Storylines: El Reno — Keep the ball away from Guthrie. The Indians’ only chance to slow down the Bluejays is to keep their high-powered offense on the sideline.
Guthrie — Avoid the trap game. After a big win against rival Carl Albert last week, Guthrie enters this week as a heavy favorite before key games against Deer Creek and McGuinness. It’s the kind of game some teams could slip up in.
The pick: Guthrie 48, El Reno 28
