A crowd filled the pews as the late day sun spilled through the windows of the chapel at Fort Reno on a Saturday in late September. They were getting a quick history lesson on the former U.S. Army Post as they waited for the sun to set and their guided tour to begin.
Rebecca Terrel, with the Sneak-N-Peek paranormal group, led a group of Boy Scouts on a ghost tour by lantern light around the historic site. Under a full moon visitors heard tales and legends of paranormal activity along with historic information about each building. Stops along the tour included the post cemetery, an officers’ quarters built in 1891, and a post commissary.
The “Ghosts of Fort Reno Tour” is a way of raising money to maintain and restore the fort. Karen Nix, Fort Reno Director, said the tours are an opportunity to learn history. “Not only do we look for ghosts and spirits, but we have a good time learning history,” said Nix.
Fort Reno is offering two special Halloween tours in October. One on the 19th and the other on the 25th. Advanced reservation is required and the cost is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $5 for children. Form more information visit the Fort Reno website.
