The Oklahoman staff picks the top games of Week 7

by Scott Wright Published: October 17, 2013

With a perfect 10-0 record in one of the toughest weeks of the season to predict, Trent extended his lead to four games on the field through six weeks of action.

Lots of love for Lawton in what might be biggest game of the week, Edmond Santa Fe at Lawton, though everyone is predicting a shootout Friday night. And it’s a clean sweep for Edmond North over Norman North in the Timberwolves’ first true test for new QB John Kolar in a starting role.

But the staff is split on some other big games, including Hilldale-Locust Grove, Tusla Kelley-Shawnee and Southmoore-Norman. Here’s how The Oklahoman staff picked the top 10 games of Week 7:

Scott
Jenks 31, Westmoore 17
Lawton 48, Edmond Santa Fe 45
Poteau 28, Cascia Hall 27
Tulsa Kelley 28, Shawnee 24
Anadarko 35, Woodward 14
Pond Creek-Hunter 56, Merritt 38
Hilldale 34, Locust Grove 31
Edmond North 24, Norman North 21
Central Marlow 58, Fox 54
Southmoore 35, Norman 34

Lock of the Week: Pond Creek over Merritt. This will be the first time the Pond Creek defense has really been pushed. They’ve given up only 6 points all year, and shut out their last five opponents. But Merritt is a solid offense and will put up some points. But PCH is too strong.

Jenks 28, Westmoore 17
Lawton 44, Edmond Santa Fe 41
Poteau 35, Cascia Hall 31
Tulsa Kelley 27, Shawnee 21
Anadarko 34, Woodward 24
Pond Creek-Hunter 40, Merritt 24
Locust Grove 27, Hilldale 24
Edmond North 28, Norman North 24
Central Marlow 56, Fox 48
Southmoore 35, Norman 34

Lock of the Week: Lawton over Edmond Santa Fe. The toughest pick of the week. I think either team could easily win, too. Both teams will struggle to stop each other, but Lawton has just enough on defense to get perhaps one more stop than Santa Fe, which also has to deal with the long travel to Lawton.

Trent
Jenks 27, Westmoore 24
Lawton 42, Edmond Santa Fe 38
Poteau 28, Cascia Hall 20
Shawnee 21, Tulsa Kelley 20
Anadarko 42, Woodward 21
Pond Creek-Hunter 50, Merritt 37
Locust Grove 33, Hilldale 27
Edmond North 31, Norman North 28
Central Marlow 52, Fox 49
Norman 35, Southmoore 34

Lock of the Week: Lawton over Edmond Santa Fe. Santa Fe quarterback Justice Hansen and Lawton running back Mike Warren lead two of the state’s top offenses into this District 6A-4 showdown. But this one could come down to which defense comes up with a key stop, and the Wolverines have been the more consisent team on that side of the ball.

Standings
Trent
Last week: 10-0, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 46-14, Lock: 6-0

Scott
Last week: 7-3, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 42-18, Lock: 5-1

Jacob
Last week: 8-2, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 40-20, Lock: 5-1
