The Oklahoman's Class 3A rankings: Finally some movement, but only a little

by Scott Wright Published: October 21, 2013

The Class 3A rankings have been status quo for the last three weeks, but thanks to Locust Grove’s 42-41 win over Hilldale, we finally have some movement this week.

Undefeated Locust Grove jumps up to No. 8, right behind the other unbeatens in the class. Of the 56 games played by those eight unbeaten teams, only four have been decided by fewer than 14 points, and three of those were against other ranked teams: Locust Grove’s win over N0. 10 Hilldale, Plainview’s 19-14 win over No. 9 Tuttle, Metro Christian’s 14-13 win over Class 2A No. 5 OCS. The only other such game was Locust Grove’s 38-34 win over Sequoyah-Tahlequah.

So it’s been a year of blowouts at the top of Class 3A.

Beggs is trying to make its case for a top-10 spot, coming off a solid win over Bethany in a non-district game last week. The only thing holding Beggs out right now is that 61-27 loss to Hilldale in Week 3. That game kept Hilldale in and Beggs out this week. Newcastle is still on the fringe, too, with its only losses coming to Blanchard and Tuttle. But Hilldale, with losses to Locust Grove and 4A Fort Gibson, held that 10th spot again this week.

Here’s The Oklahoman’s Class 3A poll:

Rank, Team, Record (Prev.)

1. Blanchard, 7-0 (1)
2. Kingfisher, 7-0 (2)
3. Seminole, 7-0 (3)
4. Victory Christian, 7-0 (4)
5. Cushing, 7-0 (5)
6. Metro Christian, 7-0 (6)
7. Plainview, 7-0 (7)
8. Locust Grove, 7-0 (10)
9. Tuttle, 6-1 (8)
10. Hilldale, 5-2 (9)
Dropped out: None
