Guide to No. 1 Guthrie at No. 5 Deer Creek

by Jacob Unruh Modified: October 25, 2013 at 11:20 am •  Published: October 25, 2013

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Where: Deer Creek High School

Radio: FM 107.7/KTOK-AM 1000

Records: Guthrie 7-0, 4-0 District 5A-2; Deer Creek 5-2, 3-1

Last week: Guthrie 52, El Reno 0; Deer Creek 51, Western Heights 7

Players to watch: Guthrie — Reed Roberts, QB. Roberts has been solid in his first season as a starter, throwing for 765 yards and nine touchdowns. The Antlers’ secondary provides a good challenge, though.

Deer Creek — Caden Sander, QB/S. Sander is starting to earn some recruiting interest as a defensive back, and for good reason. He has three interceptions so far this season after totaling seven last year.

Storylines: Guthrie — The Bluejays have the size and power that can overwhelm the Antlers. They also have the speed. Guthrie just needs to limit turnovers and keep the ball away from Deer Creek’s big-play offense.

Deer Creek — Find a way to slow down the Bluejays’ offense. Kai Callins has been great this season along with the rest of Guthrie’s offense.

The pick: Guthrie 35, Deer Creek 24
