Guide to Putnam City North at No. 7 Norman North

Evan O'Brien Published: October 25, 2013

Last Week: Putnam City North got their first shutout win of the year, beating US Grant 50-0. Norman North won their third straight as they beat Edmond North 42-35.

PCN- The Panthers are riding a three-game win streak heading into what could be their toughest opponent of the year. This game will also be crucial in deciding their playoff fate. PC North will have its hands full with this one. Norman North has the best passing attack, leading the state in passing yards per game with 303.7. Injury will also be a factor for the 3-4 Panthers; they will be without starting cornerback Brandon Jackson due to an ankle injury. The Panthers will have to stop the passing attack in order to make this a close game. Norman North is a team that does give up a fair share of points. The Timberwolves defense is allowing 34 points a game to opposing offenses. Panther quarterback Chase Sparks will need to have a good game if they want to beat the 5-2 Timberwolves.

NN- The Timberwolves will once again be without Alabama commit David Cornwell. The senior quarterback will be lost for the year because of a knee injury he suffered against an Oct. 4 matchup with Yukon. While the loss is a big one, the Timberwolves still have a solid second option in John Kolar. The junior has started two games since Cornwell’s injury and has thrown for 666 yards and six touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 68.8 percent of his passes. Kolar will go against a Panther defense that only gives up 109 yards in the air. If Kolar and company can keep their momentum going this could be a long game for the Panthers.

The Pick: While both teams are bringing in win streaks to Friday’s game, one of them will end. The Panthers have notoriously given up big plays and the Timberwolves have the capability to make them. PC North win streak will come to an end Friday. Norman North wins 42-35.
