The Oklahoman's Class C rankings: A change at the top

Another big game, another shutout for Cherokee. And with that, the Chiefs have earned the No. 1 spot in the Class C poll after Week 8.

Cherokee has yet to allow a point this season and played its two closest games of the year the last two weeks — both 46-0 mercy-rule victories over Deer Creek-Lamont and No. 8 Timberlake. Cherokee also had a 50-0 win over No. 6 Bluejacket earlier this season.

Tipton didn’t do anything to deserve being dropped, but Cherokee has been too strong to ignore. Tipton has dominated its schedule as well, allowing only 22 points for the season. But Cherokee’s wins against other ranked teams gave it a boost.

In other moves, Bluejacket jumped over Balko, which suffered its second loss of the season. And Sasakwa enters the poll for the first time. The 6-2 Vikings knocked off Webbers Falls, which was previously ranked N0. 10

Here’s The Oklahoman’s Class C top 10:

Rank, Team, Record (Prev.)
1. Cherokee, 7-0 (2)
2. Tipton, 7-0 (1)
3. Sharon-Mutual, 8-0 (3)
4. Thackerville, 7-0 (4)
5. Shattuck, 6-1 (5)
6. Bluejacket, 7-1 (7)
7. Balko, 6-2 (6)
8. Timberlake, 5-3 (8)
9. Arkoma, 5-3 (9)
10. Sasakwa, 6-2 (NR)
Dropped out: Webbers Falls, 4-2 (10)
